Harrogate’s floral excellence has been celebrated at an awards ceremony this week.

Held at 63rd + 1st and jointly funded by Harrogate BID and Harrogate in Bloom, it was the first Harrogate In Bloom Awards since 2019 with the certificates and trophies being presented by former Yorkshire Agricultural Society Chief Executive Nigel Pulling.

The evening – which was attended by more than 60 invited guests, including The Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, Cllr Victoria Oldham –  was the culmination of Harrogate BID’s Floral Summer of Celebration.

This featured a floral trail consisting of seven unique displays, floral-themed shop windows, a fascinating indoor exhibition – including a film from 1959 called Harrogate; A Guide To Britain’s Resort – and a shop window competition.

Winners on the night included Helen James Flowers, Horticap, The White Hart Hotel, Vivido and Jack Baier of Ashville College.

Unbeknown to the Harrogate BID team, they too were recipients of an award – the President’s Trophy – given for its work in delivering the Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration, and bringing the business community together to boost the town’s floral reputation.

Harrogate BID Manager Matthew Chapman said: “We are delighted to add our support to this year’s Harrogate in Bloom competition.

“Harrogate is known as a floral town and its reputation for stunning floral displays, tranquil gardens and pristine parks. And this year, our Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration also helped give the town a real lift.

This, combined with our 180-plus barrier baskets, planters and hanging baskets ensured Harrogate looked superb all summer long.

“The In Bloom team led by Pam Grant are to be congratulated for the work they have done in spearheading the competition and judging all the entries. So too are all the businesses, organisations and individuals who entered the various categories.

“I would also like to single out Jo Caswell, who had the drive and ambition to create this fantastic summer trail and for her work liaising with the In Bloom team and participating businesses.”
