Welcome to our April 2022 Newsletter

Hello, and welcome to our April newsletter.

Once again it has been a very busy month, and one which saw us introducing a new team of Harrogate Hosts, who will be in the town centre most weekends up to Christmas.

This week, we have announced our plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and if you were lucky enough to attend last week’s fantastic Spring Flower Show, I hope you had a chance to visit our stand, which was publicising our forthcoming Floral Summer of Celebration.

For this, we partnered with Blamey’s Florists, The Turkish Baths and Harrogate Theatre, and more details about this, plus our Harrogate Hosts and the Jubilee Celebrations can be found below.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, or ideas, then please do get in touch at info@harrogatebid.co.uk

Yours sincerely

Harrogate Flower Show launch for BID’s Floral Summer of Celebration

A Floral Summer of Celebration – which will bring Harrogate well and truly back into bloom – has been unveiled by town’s Business Improvement District (BID) at this week’s Spring Flower Show.

Between July 15 and August 12, the town centre will be home to a floral trail featuring ten unique displays, floral-themed shop windows and events starring key speakers from the world of gardening.

These will be in addition to dozens of hanging baskets outside town centre businesses, the numerous flower beds maintained by Harrogate Borough Council, more than 200 barrier baskets funded by Harrogate BID, and some specially commissioned floral street art.

For the launch, Harrogate BID teamed up with the organisers of Harrogate Spring Flower Show and town centre florist, Blameys, to create an art deco-themed stand featuring a giant cocktail glass overflowing with flowers, props from Harrogate Theatre, a number of iconic vintage marketing posters kindly loaned by Harrogate Turkish Baths, and the stand courtesy of the North of England Horticultural Society.

It is also supported by Harrogate Borough Council, using Government COVID-19 business recovery funding.

Harrogate to celebrates Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with outdoor family-friendly fun-fest

Destination Harrogate and Harrogate BID have announced exciting plans for celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – with a four-day programme of events highlighting some of Harrogate’s most iconic outdoor spaces and bringing together the community, local businesses and visitors from further afield.

Visitors and residents are invited to head into the heart of Harrogate for picnics, pageantry and a family-friendly party, joining the nation in celebrating Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years of service over a unique bank holiday weekend stretching from 2nd – 5th June.

Part of The Stray will be transformed into Jubilee Square, with Destination Harrogate providing a large stage and video screens to broadcast the Queen’s Birthday Parade, Platinum Party at the Palace and other Royal events from central London – bringing a flavour of Buckingham Palace and beyond to the town.

Making it the perfect place to picnic with family and friends while enjoying the ceremonial celebrations of the Jubilee in a stunning outdoor space.

Harrogate BID is bringing a plethora of live entertainment to the town for the extra-special long weekend. Planned activities in Jubilee Square include a Harrogate Mastermind Quiz, dog show, live music and family-friendly films on the big screen.

In addition to the Jubilee Square events, six sets of street entertainers will be performing across the four days in Harrogate’s town centre, which will be dressed with more than 4km of bunting to mark the occasion.

Great Yorkshire Show Appearance
for Harrogate BID

This July will see the Harrogate BID promoting the town centre to visitors attneding the annual Great Yorkshire Show.

Over the four days, the team will be encouraging attendees to come back to Harrogate and experience all that it has to offer, and why it is such a popular destination for those who want to ‘shop, eat and drink’.

Harrogate BID Manager Matthew Chapman said: “The aim of taking a stand at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show is to engage with visitors from outside the Harrogate District and ‘sell’ the town, and all that is going on within it, to them.

“We don’t plan to promote the BID as an organisation, but the sea of events and campaigns that we plan deliver throughout 2022, which include our exciting summer trails, as well as what we are doing this Christmas in conjunction with Destination Harrogate.

“And it isn’t just about us. In addition, we are asking Levy Payers to inform us of any promotions or events they may have over the summer months, and we will galdly share these with show visitors.”
