June 2023 Newsletter
The results are in, and it’s a yes vote!!
The past five years have been quite something. There is no doubt that since Harrogate BID launched, it has comprehensively delivered.
We have become part of what Harrogate is all about, helping to shout about and celebrate what the town has to offer, to consumers and businesses alike.
I am confident that our new five-year business plan and streamlined objectives will help shape the town further over the years to come to ensure Harrogate thrives long into the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported BID and to our staff and board members for their hard work over the past five years.
Harrogate BID’s aim is to ensure a clean, safe and attractive town centre which shines through to strengthen Harrogate’s environment for businesses, residents and visitors.
Thank you for your continuing support, and if you have any questions of me, please do get in touch at dan.siddle@harrogatebid.co.uk
Yours sincerely

Successful Ballot Result
We are delighted that you have voted YES for Harrogate BID to remain in place in support of the town for another five years. With a ‘yes’ vote of 76 per cent, our new term will officially start in January 2024.
Since 2019 we have delivered many town centre initiatives and we are pleased to continue to bring to you: cleaner pavements, bold street art, footfall increasing campaigns, floral flare, match funding grants, unique entertainment, collaborative networking, locked-in local spend and more.
Over the past 12 months BID has worked on intensive consultations, surveys, networking events and sector receptions. Through these, data has been gathered to demonstrate the benefits BID has brought and help to develop a new business plan for a second term.
The BID team, led by a group of directors who give their time for free, will focus on three all-encompassing new objectives: pride in our town, a vibrant town, and voice and vision.
Great Yorkshire Show
In a few weeks’ time, Harrogate BID will be at the Great Yorkshire Show to showcase our upcoming projects and the Harrogate town centre offer. There will be over 100,000 visitors and our aim is to encourage them to make Harrogate their first choice destination.
We would like to offer the opportunity to our members to showcase any offers on a dedicated webpage that you may have running during the week of the Great Yorkshire Show, as well as any physical promotional materials you would like us to display and hand out.
Please email info@harrogatebid.co.uk with:
- The details of your offer/promotion
- Your company logo
- Any terms and conditions
- If you have any physical promotional materials (we can arrange drop off/collection)
Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration
This summer, Harrogate BID will be marking Harrogate’s many international links through a series of spectacular town centre floral installations.
We will be celebrating multi-national co-operation, in particular the twinning of Harrogate with other towns such as Luchon in France, Montecatini in Italy, Barrie in Canada and Wellington in New Zealand. These partnerships have led to the fostering of friendship and understanding between different cultures. In addition, the special links that Harrogate fosters with Switzerland and Japan will also be featured.
The installations will feature unique, vibrant and eye-catching floral displays, each telling a story of how international relations have flourished to bring together the very best of our respective cultures. From a giant Buddha to a floral musical wall, there will be plenty of exciting things to see and experience.
Harrogate BID is proud to announce that it has been named as a finalist in the 2023 RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals, following the success in Yorkshire in Bloom 2022 where Harrogate BID won overall winner in the Yorkshire Rose Town/City Centre BID Category for the Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration 2022.
Save the date:
- Friday 21st July – Friday 4th August
- Harrogate town centre
- Look out for our interactive floral trail and our floral shop window competition!
A Fly In Visit to Barrie
Last month our BID Manager, Matthew Chapman, visited Barrie in Canada, an invitation which came from Mayor of the City of Barrie, Alex Nuttall.
The invitation was a result of our twinning cities floral displays earlier in the year and to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our twinned towns.
During the visit, Matthew met with the police to explore best practices, discussed the future of the high street post-Covid, explored possible trade deals and collaboration, and spoke about sustainability, as well as promoting and increasing footfall.
The city was really impressed by our street ranger concept, street art collaborations and partnerships to deliver key events, we presented about this during the visit and spoke to a crowd at their air show about what we do as a BID.
Matthew met the Chief Exec of the Toronto BIA (Business Improvement Areas) who overseas 82 BIA’s. During the visit he presented the new Harrogate BID business plan to a distinguished audience at their city hall.
A huge thank you to Harrogate International Partnerships for funding this opportunity and for your valuable work in developing international relationships!
