July 2023 Newsletter

Well, August has arrived, and we are busy as ever at Harrogate BID working on upcoming events and looking ahead to Christmas plans!

We had a fantastic time at the Yorkshire Show. Thank you to the members who shared offers for visitors who attended the event. It was great to have a presence here and to talk more to people about what we do.

In this issue of our newsletter, we give details on some important ‘save the dates’, share an update on the Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration and welcome some new businesses to the town centre.

Below you will also find details of our summer social. We really hope to see you at the event in August, as this will be a great opportunity for everyone to catch up and network.

As always, please reach out to me or a member of the BID team if you wish to discuss anything.

Yours sincerely

Dan

Great Yorkshire Show

In July, Harrogate BID had a pop-up stand in the discovery zone at the Great Yorkshire, where we showcased the wonderful retail, hospitality and leisure offering that Harrogate is famed for.

In partnership with the Stray Ferret, Harrogate BID gave town centre businesses the opportunity to promote any deals or campaigns that they had over Great Yorkshire Show week or coming up in the future, encouraging attendees to visit the town centre. The deals were showcased on a dedicated page on our website.

As evidence shows, the streets of Harrogate tend to be slightly quieter during this week, so this was a good chance to encourage more people to both take a visit then and return in the future.

It was great to get out and have the opportunity to showcase our town in this setting, representing our members in the process.

Britain in Bloom Judges Arrive in Town

The Britain in Bloom judges arrived in Harrogate on Wednesday 26th July to judge Harrogate BID’s entry for this year’s competition, where we worked alongside local florist Helen James Flowers.

Harrogate’s Floral Summer of Celebration event will be running across the town centre until Friday 4th August. We have had some fantastic comments from visitors and residents already, so make sure you check out our displays which include a giant Buddha and floral musical wall!

Save the date! The Harrogate in Bloom Awards will take place on the 21st September at West Park Hotel – it would be great to have a good attendance at this event. More info will be announced very soon.

Thank you to all those who have supported, including Harrogate International Partnerships, RHS, Harrogate in Bloom, Bettys, Victoria Shopping Centre, Nicholls Tyreman and North Yorkshire Council.

BID X Chamber Summer Social

Join Harrogate BID and Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce for our summer social event in August!

After the success of our collaborative networking event in 2022, we are really pleased to be delivering this unique opportunity once again, with over 100 businesses from the Harrogate District in attendance.

The event will take place on Monday 14th August, 5:30pm (for 6pm start) – 8pm, at the newly opened Harrogate Inn. The evening is open to both BID and Chamber members. Drinks and nibbles will be provided!

The team looks forward to welcoming everyone on 14th August. If you plan to join in, then please register for the event via the Eventbrite link here.

Save The Date for Harrogate Beer Week

If you like a glass of the good stuff, then make sure you save the date for this year’s Harrogate Beer Week! Once again, Harrogate BID will be supporting the event in 2023, which will take place from the 18th – 24th September.

The event will feature a town-wide celebration of Harrogate’s craft beer, brewing heritage, and beer in the local community. Harrogate boasts some of the UK’s leading innovators in brewing and a truly unique portfolio of indie bars and taprooms.

The week was a huge success last year, comprising of 37 events in seven days at 13 different venues. This attracted more than 1,000 attendees and generated £20,000 direct spend in the town.

Welcoming Three New Exciting Businesses

We are excited to announce that three new businesses have recently chosen Harrogate as their home. We have had a great month meeting each of these businesses and welcoming them to the town!

National café chain Muffin Break has settled into Cambridge Street in the town centre. The café is already proving to be a hit, fuelling locals with their freshly baked food, amazing coffee and great atmosphere.

This month we also welcomed The Harrogate Inn, which has just reopened following an exciting, multi-million-pound refurbishment. Part of The Inn Collection Group, The Harrogate Inn offers a spacious newly renovated pub space and accommodation, situated on Parliament Hill – just a stone’s throw away from Bettys, the Royal Hall and Turkish Baths.

Finally, Clegg Gifford also moved into new premises on Princes Street. The company provides a broad spectrum of both personal and commercial insurance products. This is a well-known and well-regarded broker, with national clientele and a heritage in the motor trade.

Please join us in welcoming Muffin Break, The Harrogate Inn and Clegg Gifford!

Soccer Aid Event – Save the Date

Harrogate BID will again be running our Soccer Aid event later this year, with a series of fun football matches to raise money for charity. This was a fantastic day last year, with North Yorkshire Police taking home the coveted crown!

This event is planned to take place on Wednesday 1st November, and there will be a number of teams representing different businesses across Harrogate, from industries including hospitality, retail and professional services.

Make sure to stay tuned for further details of the day.
