Platinum Jubilee – Time to Celebrate

Hello, and welcome to our Jubilee newsletter.

With the Platinum Jubilee celebrations less than a week away, this newsletter is dedicated to how we will be marking the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign.

Together with our partners Destination Harrogate and Your Harrogate, we have planned four days of fun centred around our Jubilee Square.

There’s bunting flying high above many town centre streets, there’s going to be street entertainers, and joining forces with Transdev we are proud to sponsor The Harrogate Bus Company’s Jubilee Freeway, which will see free electric buses running throughout the entire holiday weekend.

All these stories – in full – can be read below.

Here’s to a fantastic week!

Yours sincerely

Four Days of Family Fun On The Square

Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with family and friends at Jubilee Square.

The big screen will be showing live events from London including Trooping the Colour, Platinum Party at the Park and the Service of Thanksgiving, whilst on Sunday it’s two fabulous family films – Encanto and The Greatest Showman.

Live entertainment comes courtesy of Harrogate Spa Town Ukes, Undercovered, Freddie Cleary and The Big School Sing.

There’s also a Jubilee Dog Show, Harrogate Mastermind Quiz, The Big Jubilee Picnic with DJ Mark Green and a Wellbeing Morning.

Open from mid morning until early evening, we look forward to seeing you on the square.

Free buses over four day Jubilee celebrations

The Harrogate Bus Company and Harrogate BID have teamed up to provide free rides all day on all of the spa town’s zero emission Harrogate Electrics buses during the four-day Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The ‘Jubilee Freeway’ initiative is part of the continued partnership between the town’s leading bus operator and Harrogate BID which has previously supported free journeys in the run-up to Christmas in previous years, as well as at the start of 2021.

Harrogate BID chair and business owner Sara Ferguson said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our successful partnership with The Harrogate Bus Company to sponsor free journeys on its Harrogate Electrics buses across all four days of the Platinum Jubilee holiday – from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

Bunting flying high over town centre streets

Harrogate BID purchased 4km of colourful and patriotic bunting – a proportion of which has been funded by Harrogate Borough Council’s Welcome Back Fund – to help mark the monarch’s magnificent milestone.

The streets that the BID has dressed in a mixture of red, white and blue, various colours and ‘jubilee purple’ are:

  • Market Place
  • Cambridge Street
  • Oxford Street
  • Cambridge Road
  • Commercial Street
  • Beulah Street
  • James Street
  • Princess Street
  • Albert Street
