February 2023 Newsletter

Another month has flown by, and as ever a busy one for the BID team and Board.

My thanks to those of you who filled in our recent survey. This is incredibly helpful in helping steer us in the Business Plan for the next five years and ensures we meet your needs as a BID.

It was great to read so many positive comments and see the results which really validate the work we have done, and as you can see continue to do every month!

If you missed your chance to fill in the survey then we’d still love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, and plenty of opportunities to do so in the next few weeks, be it at one of our upcoming sector receptions, or our monthly BID Club.

Thank you for your continuing support, and if you have any questions of me, please do get in touch at dan.siddle@harrogatebid.co.uk

Yours sincerely

Dan

We are shortlisted in 2023 RHS Britain in Bloom UK FinalsOur dream of helping the town regaining its floral crown is one step closer after being named as a finalist in this year’s 2023 RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals.

We have been selected in the BIDS, Town Centres & City Centres category for our Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration campaign, which featured a town centre floral trail, fascinating indoor exhibition and a shop window competition.

In the national Britain in Bloom awards last October, we were named overall winner in the Yorkshire Rose Town/City Centre BID category, a month after being presented with The President’s Trophy for its work boosting Harrogate’s floral offering at the Harrogate in Bloom Awards.

The month-long Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration campaign, which was launched at the Spring Flower Show, was in addition to its regular floral offering of almost 200 colourful barrier baskets, shop doorway planters and hanging baskets, which in turn builds on the year-round work of Harrogate Borough Council’s Parks & Gardens team.

Our March BID Club promises a tranquil and focused experience to start the working day

Our next monthly networking session will offer visitors a tranquil and focused experience to start the working day.

For instead of it being an after work meeting, it is taking the form of an early morning Yoga class at Ebru Evrim on James Street.

Numbers for the class, which is being held at 7.30am on Thursday, March 16, are limited, and those attending are asked to come dressed in gym gear and bring a water bottle.

Harrogate BID Manager Matthew Chapman said: “February’s BID Club was a ‘netwalking’ event led by Harry Satloka from ‘Free Walking Tour Harrogate’, and for March it’s going to be Yoga!

“For this we have teamed up with Ebru Avrim, who last year took over a vacant retail unit and converted it into a wonderful health and fitness studio, which complements the businesses already occupying James Street.

“After-work events are not convenient for everyone, so that is another reason for holding a pre-work BID Club, and this one will certainly be a great way to start the working day.”

Anti-Social Behaviour meeting

Just a quick reminder to let all our members know that on the first Thursday of every month, we host town centre ASB meetings.

At these meetings there is an open opportunity for you to share any of your concerns, or indeed successes, with North Yorkshire Police, Harrogate Homeless Project, Harrogate Borough Council housing officers, and other proactive businesses and organisations, working together to ensure Harrogate continues to be a safe and welcoming place.

The next meeting is this Thursday, March 2, at 4pm at The Winter Gardens’ (Wetherspoons) meeting room, which can be found near the back of the venue.

Confederation of Passenger Transport Opportunity

CPT (Confederation of Passenger Transport), the trade body for bus and coach operators is coming to Harrogate for its 2023 North Regional Dinner Weekend.

This will take place from Friday, March 10, whereby over 250 operators and decision makers will attend a number of events and dinners.

The CPT is keen to see the excellent offer that we have in Harrogate and to showcase the town to group and coach operators, to promote our town as a destination for their future tours.

We would like to collate a list of dedicated deals for the weekend to encourage the CPT to visit the town centre and enjoy the wonderful businesses that we have.

We will create a dedicated webpage which will be sent directly to all the attendees of the weekend.

If you have a deal that you would like to share, please email info@harrogatebid.co.uk with:

  • Details of the deal
  • Any terms and conditions
