August 2023 Newsletter

Welcome to the September edition of the newsletter! Summer seems to have gone by in a flash, but we can reflect with pride on the achievements of the town over the past few months.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who came to our summer social at the Harrogate Inn! It was great to see so many local businesses in attendance – I hope you all had a fantastic time.

In this issue, we ask you to save the date for a Harrogate Music Weekender, provide further detail on the fast-approaching Harrogate Beer Week, and look forward to an enlightening couple of months commemorating 100 years of the Harrogate cenotaph.

You will also find information on signing up to a North Yorkshire Council Destination Management Plan Consultation. This is a great opportunity to make Harrogate’s collective voice heard, so please make every effort to attend a workshop if you can.

As always, please reach out to me or a member of the BID team if you wish to discuss anything.

Yours sincerely

Dan

Harrogate Beer Week

From Monday 18th September, pubs, bars, breweries, artists, musicians, cafés and restaurants across the town will come together to shine a spotlight on Harrogate’s prodigious craft beer and brewing heritage.

The HG postcode now boasts five great breweries – internationally renowned Roosters; rising star Harrogate Brewing; Daleside, the oldest local brewery; Knaresborough-based Turning Point, and newest name on the block, Cold Bath Brewing.

With special events planned at taprooms, bars and eateries across Harrogate, the week is set to be a fantastic celebration of all things beer in the local community.

The culmination of the week will be Septemberfest – a family-friendly mini-festival of food, drink and live music on the front lawns of the Cedar Court Hotel on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th. Think German food and barbeques, oompah bands, DJ and acoustic sets, kids’ entertainment… And local wines and spirits as well, of course, as beer.

Harrogate Beer Week 2023 is organised by a group of local businesses and beer-loving residents, collectively known as Harrogate Beer Week Association.

To find out more, visit the Beer Week website.

Harrogate Music Weekender

Save the date! From the 13th – 15th October, we will be hosting the Harrogate Music Weekender – a three-day, town-wide music offering.

Various different venues will be hosting live music, while Harrogate BID will also be holding a few key events to entice people into the town across the weekend.

Please email info@harrogatebid.co.uk for more information and how to get involved.

North Yorkshire Council Destination Management Plan Consultation

It’s your last chance to book on for the North Yorkshire Council Destination Management Plan Consultation.

The purpose of this is to bolster the council’s new strategy, aimed at boosting the visitor economy and supporting workers employed in the sector while also attracting a wider range of visitors to the county.

The consultation will be a great opportunity to share your views, ensuring that Harrogate still has a localised representation and receives the funding it needs to remain a key visitor destination.

These sessions will be free of charge and staged both in person and online.

The first set of in-person sessions have now passed, but there have been more dates added throughout September, which will be held at the following locations:

Whitby Pavilion, Whitby on Monday 11 September – 12pm
C4DI Group, Northallerton on Tuesday 12 September – 2pm
Online event on Tuesday 12 September – 5.30pm
The Crown Hotel, Harrogate on Wednesday 13 September – 11am and 3pm
Selby Civic Centre, Selby on Thursday 14 September – 11am and 3pm
Scarborough Spa, Platinum Lounge on Thursday 14 September – 12pm

Please click here to sign up for one of the in-person consultation workshops, or if you’d rather provide feedback on the strategy online, you can do so here.

BID x Chamber Summer Social

Following the success of the first joint Harrogate BID x Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce Summer Social, we recently held the second one at the newly refurbished Harrogate Inn.

Thank you to all the 80+ Harrogate businesses that attended, and to the Harrogate Inn for being a fantastic host. From professional services to hospitality, it was great to see such a variety of local businesses in attendance.

Our next BID Club will be a fun, high-energy networking event held with F45 on Wednesday 11thOctober. You can register here (please note that spaces are limited).

We will also be hosting a second BID Club in October with Destination Harrogate which will be used to provide an update on all things Christmas. Date and venue TBC.
