Harrogate BID will be working with the Rotary Club of Harrogate this year in organising and judging the Christmas shop window competition for 2020.

There will be no donation required and up to 50 businesses in the Harrogate BID quarters of the town centre can enter to show off their Christmas window display in the competition.

The following criteria must apply to the display:

  • illumination. There is a historic link between the competition and the Christmas lights. How well is the window lit up?
  • How new or different is the window display?
  • Spirit of Christmas. This is a ‘catch all’ category. How well does the display convey the ‘Spirit of Christmas’?

Categories will be divided into small, medium, and large displays. Definitions of these can be found in the downloadable rules on this page.

How to Apply

To enter, fill in an Application Form Here »

Alternatively, you can email jo.caswell@harrogatebid.co.uk

As the number of entries is limited, these will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. No entries will be taken after 2nd December.

The Deadline Dates

The windows of the shops taking part in the competition must be completed by 8.00am on Tuesday 8 December 2020. Shortlisting will take place on Wednesday 9 December 2020

The main judging will take place on the afternoon of Thursday 10 December 2020 starting at 3.30pm. Entrants are asked to ensure that their window illumination is on for judging for the period up to 8.00pm.

Awards

There will be an overall winning window and highly commended windows in the categories. These shops will each receive a framed certificate to display in their shop window. The overall winner will receive the Rose Bowl presented to Harrogate Borough Council by the Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce for the Italian shop window competition in 1957

Sadly, we cannot arrange an awards event as in previous years because of Covid. The organisers will arrange for the presentation of these certificates at the individual shops, with press coverage, on the afternoon of Monday 14 December 2020.
