Harrogate BID will be showcasing a unique pop-up garden with Harrogate International Partnerships at this week’s Harrogate Spring Flower Show (April 20th-23rd). The show is the first major event in the national gardening calendar, with live talks, demonstrations and the biggest exhibitions by florists from around the country.

The BID’s pop-up garden will be on show for the full four days, centred by a mock-up cenotaph and surrounded by four squared gardens, all celebrating the four locations around the world that Harrogate is twinned with.

The project’s international theme highlights the links Harrogate has made with countries from all over the world. This exhibition will celebrate multi-national cooperation, in particular the twinning of Harrogate with other towns following the second World War which led to the fostering of friendship and understanding between different cultures.

The twinned towns represented in the display are: Luchon (French Pyrenees), Montecatini (Tuscany), Barrie (Canada), Wellington (New Zealand). In addition, the displays will also highlight the town’s links with Switzerland (Bettys) and Poland (largest non-British community in the town), plus Japan and Holland.

The arrival of a pop-up garden at the Spring Flower Show, marks Harrogate BID’s launch of this year’s Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration, a two-week long campaign which will run from July 21st to August 4th. This will include ten unique floral displays, an immersive exhibition and a floral window dressing competition in partnership with Harrogate in Bloom. From a giant Buddha to a floral musical wall, there will be plenty of exciting things to see and experience.

Harrogate BID Manager, Matthew Chapman said: “After winning gold in last year’s Yorkshire in Bloom, and now being named as a finalist in this year’s 2023 RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals, we are on a roll in helping the town regain its floral crown and are ready to rise to the challenge!

“Harrogate is famed as a floral town, and over the years has won many accolades. Our floral campaign, delivered by the in-house BID team, is designed to celebrate our floral heritage and international relations.
“This year’s Harrogate Floral Summer of Celebration theme will focus on the international connections our great town has around the world, told through a series of unique displays.
“Last year’s campaign was incredibly well-received by residents and visitors alike, and it was brilliant to partner with several different local businesses and organisations.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the Britain in Bloom judges to Harrogate sometime in late July to early August, they can then see the town in all its floral glory, before attending the 2023 RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals in October.”
