Local residents are invited to a free public event this March to explore how community-owned energy could help power Harrogate and Knaresborough.

Organised by local climate action charity Zero Carbon Harrogate, the event will share the findings of a new feasibility study carried out with energy experts D3 Associates, looking at how solar power could be generated on community buildings across the area.

The study has identified potential sites for audit, assessed rooftops and explored what could realistically work to generate clean electricity, lower energy bills and keep money circulating within the local community.

The event will give attendees the chance to hear the latest findings, learn what could happen next and discover ways to get involved, from helping shape future plans to supporting a fully funded community energy project.

The evening will also include expert speakers, practical advice and discussion around ideas for creating a local energy club, similar to those promoted by Energy Local, structured within a non-profit cooperative model. This approach could enable residents to buy renewable electricity directly from local generators at a reduced rate, helping to lower household bills and reduce pollution.

The event is open to everyone, whether you are completely new to the idea of community energy or already involved in local sustainability projects.
