Harrogate BID is a business-led, not-for-profit company, funded through a levy paid by around 500 businesses in Harrogate town centre. Our mission is to improve the trading environment, increase footfall, and raise the profile of Harrogate as a premium destination for shopping, business, leisure and tourism.

The Role: Business Crime Officer
Job Title: Business Crime Officer
Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Salary: £26,000 – £28,000
Benefits: NEST Pension Scheme, 20 days annual leave plus public holidays.
Contract Type: Full time, permanent (subject to successful ballots every five years. Notice period is three months)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (flexible working required)
Reports to: Harrogate BID CEO
Direct reports: None
Purpose of the role
We are looking for a self-motivated and coherent individual to support the BID Board, team and members in improving the safety, security, environment and feel of the town centre. The successful applicant will lead on engagement with partners working towards the reduction of business crime and anti-social behaviour in the town, as well as engaging with the Harrogate BID Levy Payers. The Business Crime Officer will add an additional uniformed, ambassadorial presence on the streets of Harrogate enabled by clear communication and a can-do attitude.
Key Accountabilities
The Business Crime Officer will be responsible for delivering the following core outcomes:
Key Responsibilities
- Provide an ambassadorial presence in the town centre for businesses and visitors in the town centre.
- Link in with the town centre radio and CCTV system and engage partners such as North Yorkshire Council and North Yorkshire Police, to be the eyes and ears on the ground and provide a clear line of communication between businesses and the relevant organisations.
- Support and communicate key projects led by North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Council.
- Champion partnership working. Collaboration is key to this role and the successful candidate must lead on this, fostering and growing alliances with colleagues such as Police Officers, PSCO’s, Rough Sleeper Team, Harrogate Homeless Project, Community Safety Team, CCTV Operatives, Cleansing Operatives.
- Be a key expert in this field constantly looking for positive means and methods in which to support the BID business plan and objectives. A key example of this would be looking at how to build on the Business Crime Reduction Partnership in place in the town.
- Creating and maintaining a positive, robust and ever-growing relationship with BID members and local businesses. You will be a key liaison between Harrogate BID and our members.
- Reporting issues to enhance the BID area – being the eyes and ears on the ground you will have a key eye for detail noticing issues such as overflowing bins, broken street furniture, blocked drains, wobbly paving slabs, weeds etc.
- Be part of a team that manages and updates our in-house CRM system.
- Manage the administrative aspects of Harrogate Pubwatch and work closely with that group.
- Support the BID team on other projects as part of the business plan.
About you:
This is a varied role so ideally you will be a ‘doer’ with great communication skills, a positive can-do attitude and great initiative, willing to support the Harrogate BID team and its initiatives.
You will have experience in all or some of the key points identified above with a willingness to join a small team who deliver big things.
Desirable:
- Proven experience in building relationships with key stakeholders.
- Proven experience in the security field with a valid SIA badge (or willingness to gain one through Harrogate BID)
- Personable approach
- Proven experience of working in a public facing role
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of the Microsoft 365 suite.
- Exceptional organisational skills
- The role may be physically demanding at times, including walking distances around the town centre
- To have experience in using Customer Relationship Management Systems
- Willing to undertake training and development as directed/necessary to help fulfil the job role.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to foster positive relationships with various types of organisations
- Able to represent the BID professionally at all times
