Businesses and organisations in Harrogate Town Centre have made their voices heard and have voted in favour of taking more control over their future by setting up a Business Improvement District (BID).
Ballot results released by the independent scrutineer, Electoral Reform Services, revealed that 82% of all those who voted are in favour of the BID progressing. For the BID to be successful, a second trigger ‘majority by rateable value’ was also required and this was achieved with 88% of those who voted.
It is anticipated that the BID will commence from early 2019 for a five year term and will be financed through a BID levy, the proceeds of which will be invested into the town centre and on the additional projects that businesses have identified and set out in the Business Plan. Over the five years of the BID will be generate over £3m to be spent in the BID area.
John Fox Chair of the Harrogate BID said ‘This is a fantastic result for Harrogate town centre and I would like to say thank you to those involved in bringing it about. Businesses have taken the bold decision to invest in the plan and it is our job now to ensure that it is delivered’ The real work begins now and we are determined to make sure that it is a success’.
Mo Aswat, Director of The Mosaic Partnership who advised on the development of the BID said, ‘Harrogate is our 100th BID in the UK and I am especially proud of that being from Yorkshire. Harrogate has always had a special place in the county and with this vote of confidence and investment, I hope it will continue to grow and enhance that reputation in the years to come.
We look forward to seeing you
